Braces have been a right-of-passage for most teenagers. The embarrassment of having a “metal mouth” and the discomfort of the brackets rubbing against the inside of the cheek was the price you had to pay for that great smile. Luckily for today’s teenagers, there is another option. Invisalign is the next generation of technology for teeth alignment. The beauty of it is in the simplicity, especially for the patient.

Just imagine, Tessa Teen goes to the orthodontist to have her teeth assessed for Invisalign. The orthodontist will take pictures and xrays of her teeth and make impressions. From that, 3D digital images will be created that the orthodontist can analyze. The orthodontist makes a plan for how and where the teeth will move. Based on the plan, transparent trays, called aligners, are made for Tessa. The first aligner fits her teeth almost perfectly, but it puts pressure on her teeth to start moving them in the right direction. Tessa has a series of aligners to go through, changing every two weeks, and with every aligner her teeth get closer to their goal position. It is such a simple process, with no wires to tighten or brackets to replace. She visits her orthodontist about every six weeks to check on her progress. The best part is that the aligners are hardly noticeable and she can take them off sometimes if she needs to, like when she has her school picture taken! Tessa’s braces won’t ever show up in the yearbook. In about the same amount of time it would have taken with standard braces, Tessa’s smile is at her goal.
